We found an RV service center and spent almost the entire day there. I bought a new gray water valve which Sharon and I installed, and then "Jerry," the owner, and I spent a couple hours trying to clear a stuck plastic valve out of the hot water heater. Eventually we removed the whole unit and were able to fix it. By the way, Jerry is a great guy and very affordable so if you ever have trouble with an RV in the Black Hills of South Dakota, take it to him (link).

The good news is we were able to fix everything - the bad news was that it took all day. We had wanted to visit Custer State Park before leaving South Dakota but decided we needed to move on to Wyoming.
As we crossed the border into Wyoming we quickly both agreed that Wyoming was easily the most beautiful state we had seen on our trip. It is also clearly the most desolate. There is no one here, just endless miles of breathtaking hills, canyons, mountains, and plains. Sounds like a place for me! I also like the slogan on Wyoming's welcome sign "Forever West."
Around 8:30 PM we finally arrived at our destination, a primitive campground at the base of Devil's Tower. We'll tell you more about this weird and impressive volcanic monument tomorrow.
Random Fact of the Day: Between Boydtown in Iowa and all these "Boyd" stores in Gillette, Wyoming, Boyd seems to be a fairly common name out here.
